WHEN SHOULD YOU BOOK YOUR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER IN TORONTO?

One of the biggest mistakes couples make when planning their wedding is waiting too long to book their photographer. In a city like Toronto, where wedding season is bustling and venues book up fast, photographers do too.

So... when should you actually book your wedding photographer? Let's break it down!

Book Early - Here's Why

If you're getting married during peak season (May to October), you'll want to book your wedding photographer 12 - 18 months in advance. Many top Toronto photographers open their books a year ahead and fill up quickly - especially for Saturday weddings.

Winter weddings or weekday celebrations may offer a bit more flexibility, but even then, the earlier you book, the better your chances of securing your top choice.

At Keepsake Photography, I typically open my calendar in January for the following year - and I often book out prime dates by spring.

Why Booking Early Matters

  • You get your first choice - Waiting means your dream photographer may already be booked.
  • You can plan your engagement session - Most packages include one, and booking early gives you flexibility to schedule it when the light and weather are ideal.
  • You get support through planning - A good photographer helps you with timelines, lighting suggestions, and vendor referrals - not just photos. But that support starts when you book.

What If You're Booking Late?

Don't panic! If your wedding is in 6 months or less, it's still possible to find a talented photographer. Reach out with your date, be flexible with coverage options, and check if someone has had a recent cancellation. I occasionally have last-minute openings and I keep a shortlist of trusted photographers to refer to if I'm unavailable.
